Goreme Open Air Museum

This was our first activity in Cappadocia.

It looked pretty interesting in the pictures so we were excited to check it out.

There wasn’t much in the way of public transport around Cappadocia so we went for a walk.
Did we underestimate the walk? Perhaps but it was great fun with some interesting views.

When we finally made it, we got our ticket and wandered in.

Pretty much immediately we were approached by someone. They asked about our visit, introduced themselves as a guide, and asked if we wanted a tour. I figured it couldnt hurt, a different perspective to learning myself. And as it turns out it meant someone was on hand to take photos.

The museum itself was really neat. Amazing to learn the history of people carving these homes and rooms straight out of the rock.
Finding out all the different way the had set up the rooms to serve a specific purpose. To see how the years of fires and candles had caused the walls and roof to blacken.

The last church we saw, after we left the main area of the museum was the Тоkalı Kilise (Buckle Church) and was probably the most amazing with all its artwork and brilliant blues. I don’t have any photos and if memory serves it was due to not being allowed to take photos.
